Hi all,
I have a strange question. I have a female red wag Platy that seems to have quite a shape to her. She is in a tank with 1 other Platy (f), 2 balloon mollies (1f,1m) and 2 sparkling gouramis. She seems happy, healthy, and active. I feed them flake food and freeze dried bloodworms in variation. Feeding is twice a day, placing only enough for them to eat before I notice they stop eating it all.
Not long ago, I had the pleasant and shocking surprise of finding fry in my tank! I separated the little guys to a nursery tank.
Now, I originally thought since I had 1 Black female Molly and 1 white male Molly, there was mating and a birthing in the tank, leading to little black fry and a few clear fry. However, I'm starting to question this line of thought.
1. The white fry is developing black and orange on his body, which would be bizarre, since orange would only come from my two platies.
2. I've noticed an increase in activity and a roundening of my red wag's belly.
BUT.
I have no idea if this means it was HER that gave birth, and she was pregnant when I got her at my LFS, or if she's just a fatty! I've noticed she's become quite the hog for food!
