My platty had been at the top of the tank for a while now. And I have been told she is close to given birth. Shehas now found a small quite spot among plants and is resting her belly along the sand... And every now and then swishing her tail about 5 times each way. How close is she? and how could i make it betta for her. Should I keep her in the tank for keep her away from the others. ?

shes probably in labour, about to give birth any min,, she will know what to do, if you do want to save any fry do you have a breeding net you can put her in, but other than that she`ll be fine im sure, tho if he was stressed already, maybe not 
but if u dont plan on saving the babies, just let her alone to get on with it, as trapping her now will cause undue stress

im not bothered about fry, if they live then good but if not then fair enough. I think she was near labour when I brought he about lunchtime today. And i wouldnt want to put more stress on her for a cople of fry !

great then just turn off the lights and leave her too it, please bear in mind that she could be stressed as wel as pregnant,and things may not go to plan, but the best thing you can do is leave her in peace

I ave turned off light and will check on her in morning and post comment telling everyone how she is
also she is a really dark red platty but i cannot seem to see the dark patch they get around they belly. is this normal ?

Just to let every one know. She is getting along fine and is swimming along the tank lenght a little more now... Still fat and still doing the tail swishing thing every now again. But she looks healthy and alright. Though not sure if she have giving birth yet or not lol
