hi this is my first topic
my 2 female guppies hav been preg for at least 20 days and they still havnt dropped.

:dunno: and they hav a small red mark just before the grvid spot wat is dat? :dunno:

thanx :D

First off, welcome to the forum! :)

Guppies are prgnant for about a month, so your's are getting close to dropping!

Is the red mark internal or external?

Well, one of mine had a red mark too....and she was fine.
But there is also the chance it could be septicemia. Does she have anymore red marks anywhere else?

It's also possible one of the male guppies has been picking on her a little bit, and bit her. I've noticed they like to bite the females around there.

Hard to tell...maybe someone else can come along that could diagnose it better....

she has only that one red mark

and she has noy been in contact with any males for 10 days

thanx

Wow...I don't know. It sounds like something is swollen to me..

Maybe someone else can help you more. Sorry I couldn't. :/

Hmm, somtimes livebearers will display certain symtoms of desease due to the stress of the pregnancy and the amount of fry in them but usually clear up sortly after the birth of the fry.
Your guppys are near the end of their pregnancys although i wouldn't be worried if they are a little late as pregnancy expectancys will vary a bit from guppy to guppy depending on how many fry the pregnant fish is expecting, which could be anything between 5 and 50 fry(although most people don't exceed 20).

Just make sure the pregnant fish have plenty or varied food to eat and planting in the tank and good water stats to try and create as stress free enviroment as posible and your guppys should deliver no problem

i think their stressed-out because of the breeding trap.
anyway thanx for the advice.

Do you have them in a breeding trap?

If you do, I would take them out. They can get over stressed, and abort the pregnancy...

You might want to let the female have the fry in the tank, then scoop them out as you see them and raise them in a breeding net.

If the guppys are looking huge/like they're gonna pop that would probably explain the redness...Just keep an eye on it though and see what happpens.

i do hav them in a breeding tank.
but i cant let them drop in a normal tank because i probably wont be around to scoop them after the fry are born,by the time i get there the fry would be eaten,i dont think plants can cover all the fry. -_-

dont worry i didnt know mine had given birth untill i saw them sunday nite.
they were still alive when i managed to get a breeding trap on the monday afternoon and caught them and put them in it. i managed to save 20 or so and there is still some in side the tank now which have made it and my tank is not heavily planted either.
one guppy did however eat one of the fry right in front of the tank so i saw it
