More detailed..if you don't know what a pump is.

Power heads are found in filters,they pump the water in and out through the sponges or whatever your filter has in it.You can buy replacement powerheads and more powerful ones for most filters if you need to!

Generally used, a power head fits onto the top of an undergravel filter lift tube. Depending on the style or available optional accessories of power heads, they can either pull water through the gravel, or, push oxygenated water up through the gravel. They can also be used to simply provide more current in the water.

A powerhead is a small submersable water pump. You can do plenty with them if you get creative.
 
They also fit onto juwel aquarium filters.I had 1 for my rio it was 1000lph and i changed it to 1500lph,much better :D
