Would any of you guys recommend this device? It's pretty cheap £15 - £20 and fits on the outlet of a powerhead and as it rotates the flow of water is spread around the tank so the flow is not always straight to the same place. Anyway, good idea or not?

Jon

yeah ive seen them on tanks and it looks like it does a great job corals will love it to as its a change in corrent for them. i would look around though as you can find cheaper one £7 to £10 each (im actually going to get some next week)

Great thanks. I will have a look at mail order ones as the price I quoted was in one of my lfs.

Jon

I wouldn't mind one of these, and my girlfriend is in london for a little while longer. You got a link to a shop or LFS where i can order one to?

A friend of mine just bought one.
Hydor is the name of it i think and its works a treat! far better than the sweeping powerheads that quickly get clogged with salt and calcium. There seems to be only a tiny amount of reduction in flow.

Well worth it from what i can see

The only place I have seen them so far is at the Waterzoo in peterborough http://www.waterzoo.co.uk . I havn't had time to look for mailorder sites yet.

Definately buy one.
I have them on my powerheads and they work a treat, the water movement is really good.
Just make sure you buy the correct size for your powerhead as they come in different sizes.

Im not sure if there are different makes but the Hydor one comes with a variety of different sized attachement tubes to fit on different sized powerheads.

The spinge is used close to the surface so that it breaks the surface of the water and into the air. This creates an exchange and creates a bacteria exchange... Personally i think it will offr very very little in the way of filtration but its a clever gimick. What else i think it does do (and probably works much better) is to remove protiens that formon the surface and create that scummy film that appears at times.
