Powercuts

Hello

Last year we went away and all of our electric went off at home, with disastrous results for the fish.

Is there any way i can prevent this from happening again?

Perhaps it would possible to wire the essential things like the heater to an emergeny battery? Has anyone ever tried anything like this before?

I'm a tad worried about this aswell, recently out power was tripping out and it was happening over night, it was out for 4 hours 1 night, I think the deaf of my female blue ram was linked to this but can't be sure.

Also is there any kind of insurance for fish should there be powercuts etc?

mm interesting. I know if there is a long powercut you can float bottles of warm water in the tank to keep the temperature up, buts thats not much good if your away!

when you're there in the powercut you can do small water changes with warm water.

there we go, replied in your toehr 1 aswell, hope that covers most of it.

This happened to me before. My Ropefish only survived the power outage.


Here's what I do:

I immediately un-plug all filtration units. You do this because toxins build up in the tank and when the power DOES come back on, those toxins will be spread throughout the tank. Wait a little bit beofere you turn the filter back on.

Put blankets over the tank to keep in warmth.

Buy a battery powered air pump and run it near the SURFACE because those toxins can be kicked up if the airation is near the bottom.

Other than that just pray.

I think well stocked fishing shops sell them to keep bait fresh.

or probable ebay, I haven't seen them in the Uk either though.

Most Wal-Marts have them in the sporting goods dept., either in the fishing or boating area. Not very expensive.

i have had powerouts for like 10 hours at a time before and i just leave everything and nothing bad ever happens except from my ish going a little dull
