There's a huge forest fire not far from my house and it's knocked out the power. This happened about 2-3 hours ago and i'm posting from a friends house right now. I'm just wondering, how long will my tropical fish be able to survive in thier tank with a pump and heater off, and is there anything I can do to help them, as i'm not sure how long the power is going to be out.

Might want to post this thread in tropical discussion more members go over there.

You can get a battery powered air pump.
Don’t feed the fish for the next few days. Do partial water changes and gravel cleans to reduce the gunk in the tank. Maximise surface turbulence and aeration when the power comes back on.
If you have an external canister filter you can put the outlet hose into a bucket and let the bucket fill up. Then return the outlet hose to the tank and pour the bucket of water into the tank. This will keep oxygenated water flowing through the filter and help keep it alive for longer. You will need to do this about once an hour until the power is returned.
Keep the fish calm and dark. They will sleep and produce less waste.
