Hi all

Got this ammonia today but i am not sure if its ok to use, it states ammonia solution on the bottle.

also tank still cloudy off the sand

It should have a list of ingredients (or contents), as long as it doesn't list surfactants, it's good. Another way to tell is to shake the bottle, if you get a lot of bubbles, then it's not good for fishless cycling.

Depending on how well you washed the sand, it can take up to two days IME for it to clear.

Hi dominicbeha I am at the same stage as you. I have put aquarium sand in the tank this afternoon and filled it. I washed the sand in a bucket this afternoon and the water in the bucket looked clear but in the tank the water is really cloudy. I didn't know whether to start over again or hope that the filter clears it.

Just give it a day or two, the filters should clear it up. :good:

Didn't really want to do a water change because i've started adding ammonia but I suppose i'll have no choice if it doesn't clear. Could the cloudiness I have now be due to the bacteria bloom i've been reading about. I have a powerful filter (fluval 4+) and it seems strange to me that the water looks no clearer after 24 hours. thanks Mark.

hey mark- got ur email- im letting mine complete;y settle before i start cycle

hows things going? u planted up yet?

Just don't worry about the cloudy water.
It'll go away when it goes away. Nothing to get all upset over heh.

Even if you do have to do a water change, I can't see how adding the ammonia will have been a waste of time. The bacteria you are trying to grow are in the filter, not in the water - so taking out some water and replacing it will not impact on the cycle as long as you add more ammonia to get the level back up to 4-5ppm. Don't forget to dechlorinate, because chlorine will kill your bacteria.

Thanks for that, I understand but just got a bit confused. I'm going to carry on adding ammonia every day and HOPEFULLY my water will clear.
