hi
ive posted before about basil our betta who has a swollen gill. i tried sterazin as it was suggested it may be gill flukes (although he wasnt flicking & his gill wasnt red) but this has done nothing. after extensive research ive now found that he may have a thyroid tumour (apparently this is quite common with bettas) and treating with potassium iodine will help.
ive two questions first can i use an iodine such as the kelp based ones you get in health food shops???
and would this affect my shrimp -ive read that some people actually add iodine to shrimp tanks as it helps them stay healthy but want to make sure the kelp based variety would be ok. if not where could i get a liquid potassium iodine??? any one know (im in the uk )
thanks

You may get a more accurate answer if you post in the shrimp forum, I think its called crustation forum or something, and ask them if it affects shrimp, if they reply no Id give it a go! or just move the shrimp out the tank whilst you treat
