Why am I browsing a fish forum at 2am?
After my week trip to Vegas I came home to a few dead bettas and a few with some serious issues.
My split 3 gallon has my HM and my super delta in it. The hm was dead and the super delta was looking really bad. I'm not sure how long the hm was sitting there but it didn't look like too long. The hm's cause of death is still unknown, but he did have some spots of funky color similar to what a betta with columnaris would get. The super delta is still alive but very pale and not eating or moving much. No noticable fungus or fin rott but he does look really skinny. He wobbles when he swims, and has a lot of trouble doing it. I did water changes on all of my tanks the day I left to make sure everything was in check and only had my brother feed once while I was gone.
In my 18 gallon community with 3 females, one was dead. A mustard gas female. It was hard to tell how long she had been dead because I suspect the other fish ate her fins. My red female in the same tank has stress bars constantly now and seems to have almost transparent colored fins.
In another split 3 gallon with a plakat and a vt, the plakat is very lethargic, pale and isn't eating. Again, no signs of fungus or rott. But the vt has a bubble nest covering his whole side of the tank
He does have a large stomach for not eating though. When I get home from work tonight I'm moving the vt away from him.
In my 8 gallon, my other super delta's fins are very frayed and some strands are barely hanging on and he has a discolored stripe on the top of his head. He is also very fat looking for just eating once in a week... if my brother did only feed them once. This tank has melafix and the tail doesn't seem to be getting any worse or better.
In a 3 gallon hex my combtail is VERY skinny, but is eating. He has what seems to be fin rot, and discolored lighter spots all over his body. He is also a little wobbly when he swims.
All tanks with problems have melafix in them. And for the first time last night all the 3 gallon tanks got parasite meds. This sucks butt crack.
