Hi there,

I may be getting a new tank soon! :hyper:

I like what I've seen of the african cichlids. I think the maximum it will be is 33 gallons, three feet long, due to space and cost constraints but I'm trying to work out a 55. From the threads here and the pinned article on Mbunas, which is really good by the way, I figure that shell dwellers would be the way to go. I'm looking for some advice on what species and numbers I could keep in this size tank. What would I need in the way of rock/decoration? Any links to good articles or general info would be good too.

This is all in the theory stage at the moment, so I'm open to ANY suggestions at all for this tank. What would you do with it? Keeping expenditures reasonable, of course. Pretend like it's your money. :fun:

well for starters, read the pinned threads at the top of this forum.

really helpful.

in my 55 ive been told i can have 18 fish so id say about 10 or 12 for a 33 but maybe get someone elses advice on that.

cichlids are aggressive lil fish so you have to stock the tank quite high to spread out aggression.

to help with this you also need to make sure theres plenty of hiding places. big pile of rocks works well.

all this is explained in the threads i mentioned tho so jus check them out.
