[size=1} I'm back from my trip to a couple of lfs. I went to see what was available to me for stock. Here's a list of possible stock and qty for my 30 gal. tank. I have read about them and from what I can tell they should be compatible. Please let me know if you see something that is not compatible. The big thing I am concerned about is qty. I know I will have to stock slowly when it finishes cycling, but I don't want an over stocked tank because I like tooo many fish.

6 Neon Tetras
6White Clouds
6 Discus Tetra (will give up either neons or white clouds to have these)
Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami
2 Corys
And of course, Willow, my violet goby.

With the above line up could I have a few ghost shrimp too? maybe one male betta?

I really liked the Rainbow & Red platty's too if they would be more suitable tha something else I listed.

I have a 30 gallon tank. Natural PH is 7.6 and being a newbie I really don't want to try and alter my ph right now.[/size]

I take it the violet goby is none negotiable? If so then he should set the conditions - brackish so none of the others are compatible. You could easily keep mollies with him.

He came with the tank and other fish. The friend I bought him from had him for 2 years and he's always been in a freshwater set up. I know that they are native for brackish, but she bought him when he was small from freshwater and that's all he's ever known. (All I have to go on is her word and having seen him over the past 2 years in her tank.)

Being new to all of this has a major disadvantage as I don't know if it would help or hurt to change him now. I can always get another tank for him with fish that are brackish, but he appears to be healthy. Eats well, swims around well, sure likes hiding in his cave. His behavior is the same now as it's always been. He's grown from 2-1/2" when my friend bought him to a good 6" now. The major concern I have for him right now is his current housing as it is too small for him, but until I get the larger tank cycled I can't do anything else with him.

I think I'll post in the brackish area and see what I can come up with there as far as if it would be helpful to change him to brackish gradually or not.
