I got 5 Boesemani Rainbow Fish and didn't notice one of them had white "fluff" on its dorsal fin and one pectoral fin. It was a very small amount but the fish also wasn't swimming normally. I took the fish back as I don't have a hospital tank right now and am running my UV in the canister as pseudo fungus is bacterial but I don't see any signs of it on any of the other new fish. I wish I'd seen it at the store when they were bagged.

If you get sick rainbowfish, add salt. Use 2-4 heaped tablespoons of rock salt for every 20 litres of water. Keep the salt in there for 2 weeks and they are normally fine after that.

I don't put salt in my tank regardless, but I certainly wouldn't add salt to a community tank because of one sickly likely immune compromised new fish I didn't notice had a problem until I got it home.
