Possible Popeye

While I was at my Not so LFS, I saw a betta in one of those horrid peace lilly jars...Aside from being absolutely gorgeous, he also appeared to have a (slight) case of popeye. Having a 5gal I was going to set up as a QT tank I figured I would buy him. So, after bringing him home, acclimating him and releasing him into his new home ( made a mad dash thru wal-mart to get some gravel for the bottom ) his eyes don't look anywhere near as bad as I thought they were.

If it is popeye, how should I treat it? A bit of salt and/or maracyn?

Have to check the expiration date on my maracyn..otherwise I'm boned...

I'll post pics later, once I get batteries...

Maybe, I'm just over exaggerating the situation...maybe he just has goofy eyes?

Kinda hard to tell. Are you talking about HIS left eye? Not really sure since can't see it very well.

I'm thinking I'll just leave him for a few days...see if he gets any better, and buy some aq. salt and give him a bit of that.


His über long tail is what caught my attention, aside from the whole...peace lilly vase thing

Lol.. you know how when you view a pic... I could've said the right eye b/c it's on my right side even though I'm talking actually talking about the left eye.... if that makes any sense heh

Well, from what I can see everything looks ok, but a couple of the pics are blurry so it's kind of hard to tell. With that aside, he is amazing! The coloration is awesome and his fins (anal as well as tail) are enormous! Great find!

I had a boy with popeye and you can really tell. The eye was much bigger and sort of cloudy. I treated it with meds and he recovered!

I'll try to go get some maracyn tomorrow then.
