Hi All,
First post in but very much enjoyed reading various posts on here for the last few weeks and have certainly picked up more than a few tips.
Bit of background first...
I live in the north of Israel and have a 300ltr community tank, inhabited with 10 mixed guppies (6 females, 4 males), 2 x male 3 spot gouramis, 1 x albino bristlenose, 1 x pleco, 1 x male German Blue Ram, 1 x female German Blue Ram, a male and female Betta pair and 4 dyed tetras I rescued from the lfs. I should mention the above are what is alive in the aquarium now and not a week ago.
Okay to the problem...
Last week I was in the UK taking care of some family business and while I was there my 8yr old daughter called me to tell me we'd lost one of the female blue rams and 2 female guppies to white spot. I then explained to her how to dose the tank with medication, but couldn't actually expect her to open up my external filter to remove the carbon or to get to the heater to gradually increase temp to 30*c. With that in mind I figured it would be best to dose the tank every other day till I got back. Only problem is that she misheard me and dosed every day.....
I got back home yesterday and had a good look in the tank. I'd lost another couple of guppies and another female ram was at death's door and subsequently died yesterday afternoon, however the rest of the fish look in perfect health, no strange behaviour, no white spot that I can see and they're all crowding at the top of the tank whenever they see me, anticipating a feed obviously. I fed them a little last night which was quickly devoured (previously they hadn't eaten in 4 days) and dropped an algae wafer in for my bristlenose and pleco which the gouramis and guppies also seemed to enjoy.
One strange thing I did notice in the tank though that concerned me a little was that some of the rocks have turned a shade of blue, obviously from the medication as it's a strong violet / blue colour. I removed one of them yesterday and tried to rinse it but the dye has stayed in the rock and now I'm a little concerned as to whether the fish will come to any harm from this.
Sorry for the long winded post, just wanted to give a more complete picture and would appreciate any comments.
