Hi All

Had some new neons added to the tank which were fine on arrival but some have white spot on them. They seem fine behaviour wise but I fear this may spread to the rest of the tank.

I have read that the safest method is adding salt and raising the temperature to 86F.

I have the following questions though.

Will it damage the bacteria in the filter?
Will it damage the plants and snails(assasin snails that do an incredible job keeping the snail population to almost zero)?
Will it stress the fish and are any of the following fish at risk to the salt? (Pleco, platy, Molly)?

Plus do you just add the salt direct or dissolve in some water first? Also what sort of water change and how regular?

Many Thanks for any help

Raise the temp over two or three days to 86° so that doesn't add extra stress. Nothing you have is overly sensitive to salt. I usually add a Tbl spoon of salt per 5 gallons, for three consecutive days. Leave it that way for a week, unless something shows stress. Good luck, I hope I'm able to help.

Hi this has now dissapated thanks.

I think that it might be there in the background but as long as the fish are healthy they dont seem to suffer from it? Might be wrong but the local fs said it would only be any problem if the fish were stressed or the tank water was poot quality.

Many thanks
