I'm a bit worried about my betta's eating habits. I have been giving him betta bio gold by Hikari, and when i watch him eat, he seems to suck it for a few seconds, then spit it all back out, and he seems to do this to all of them... kinda like he was playingg with his food, but im concerned hes not eating.

I have been using them for a week or two as his staple diet, with bloodworms and daphnia as treats. he loves the daphnia, swims around a load to try and gobble it all up.

Any advice?

Is he eating any of them. My male Sygun will eat the first couple and then do the same spitting out and sucking in of the last 2. You could try to break them in half and see if he prefers them a bit smaller.

I think he is eating some. I fed him 6 sbout five mins ago and theres only two left which hes been sucking and then spitting out, so hopefully im just worrying too much.

Hi
It could be that you're giving him too much. We feed ours 3 or 4 pellets twice a day.

When we feed bloodworm its normally about 3 each once or twice a week.

Hope this helps

My new male, who's quite small, spat the bio gold pellets out at first. Then I read a post saying to break them up. So I crushed them with the pestle and mortar I had for grinding up flakes for fry when I had livebearers. Worked a treat, he hoovers up very scrap and no more spitting out.

I am guessing he is full after so many pellets and just playing with them, Id try crushing them like others said, and also feeding very small amounts more often.
