hey
i was looking at my betta this morning and noticed a single white spot next to his gills on his right hand side
sadly i cant get a picture
but it is exactly as i say,a small single white spot, ehat should i do?

thanx

How big is the spot, is it bigger than a grain of salt.
Any redness to the spot like a circling of red around the edges of the spot or a red centre.

it is around the size of a grain of salt,
i think i saw a smaller spot just bellow his gill and his gill looked a little bit enflamed
there is no redness on or nextb to the spot
thanx for the fast reply

Ok if the spot the size of a grain of salt could be looking a whitespot.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Inflamed gills can be bad water quality to gill flukes.
What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

i currently only have tests for ph and nitrite,i will do them asap
i intended on doing a water change today anyway is that still advisable?
he's not flicking or rubbing
its only one gll that looks a little raw
will be right back with the results

How many gallons is the tank.
Do you keep any other fish with the betta.
I would keep an eye on the spot and also watch out for flicking and rubbing.
Yes need water stats.
You say the gill inflamed is it also red looking.

ph is just above 7
nitrite test came back a very pale pink around 0.1mg/l according to my chart
the tank volume is 6.6gal and he shares it with 3 cherry shrimps
its so frustrating i have only had them for 5 days (all brought at the same time at the same shop
i have done a 20% clean out as i intended to today

when i said enflamed i meant it looked a little bit red (sorry i get some of my terms mixed up)

i am just stressing because i have just got out of hospital and the last thing i intended on doing today was worrying about my fish
to make life more stressfull the filter keeps making a dreadfull noise since i cleaned out, guess i will have to rebuild it...but now i am ranting off topic lol

i will monitor the spot closely and get full water stats as soon as i can

Ok.
I do know what you mean when you are ill.
Red inflamed gills can be bad water quality to gill flukes.
Keep an eye on the spot to see if more appear, and watch out for flicking and rubbing againts objects in the tank.
Also watch out if the fish start to produce more excess slime on the body and gills.

thanx a lot,i will update as soon as i have anything to add

damn filter is still not going right lol,it really isnt my day

Welcome to fish keeping lol.
Good luck.
