Hello there,

I think I have my tank in the completly the wrong space in my room. can anybody here help?

I have it by the T.V. I know that this is bad, also of late, I have bee getting up at dask and I have been noticing that the daylight coming through the window is hit the tank. The tank is approx 10 feet away from the window. Also the tnk is oppiste a door which does have my family walking to and though.

I have a free wall which is closer to the window, but the opposite side of the room, away from t.v and door or I have corner to put it in however, i feel that the back door will mess the tank up with daylight etc.

Comments please

The light hitting the tank may contribute to increasing algae, though perhaps not by much. Iv heard if alot of people keeping going past the aquarium it may alarm the fish, but this is often something they would get used to.

Television, so long as its not to loud to cause low level vibrations perhaps ought not to be a problem, unless theres also constant flashing at the tank.

Mines in the main living room, with a TV and one of the more busier rooms in the house, but its in between the wall and chimney breast, so sun light is hardly a problem.

Thank you for your advice however i feel that i need to strip it down and start again. Theres just to much brwon alge growing I'm thinking of moving it to the opposite side of the room.

Many thanks again fearce

My tank is in our lounge room, where we spend 99% of our time (could of put it in family room but would never see it).

I wanted to have it where we could all see it.

We have the tv going on in there all day, my daughter running around screaming, crying, playing laughing etc and everyone seems to be perfectly fine.

Yes, I agree living room is a common place - not really a problem.

You say strip down and start again, has thing tank got fish, if you do this, you may find your tank will cycle again....

Thank you for your replys.

At the moment its sitting in my front room doing nothing with no fish (just wasting electric). I'm afriad to say yes it will have to go through the fishless cycle again. I want to make a few improvements to it, loike to put in new gravel etc.

Its not going to happen for the next few months yet though.

Please keep your replys going though.

Thanks once again.

i suppose to help the cycle, and if feasible, the water to syphon out, store in buckets etc. and dont rinse out filter media.
Upon -re installing your setup perhaps use same water etc.

it depends on the fish how busy the room should be. you'll find with some fish it's best to keep them in a busy room or they will become reclusive and hide when people approach the tank, you need to acclimitise them to people being around, they get used to it and you'll see them more.

however some fish that are easily spooked should not be kept in a room where kids are running around screaming or anything like that.

as for natural sunlight, it's easy enough to work out when it hits the tank, adjust the timer on your lights to take this into account, so say you get sun on the tank between 10 and 12 and you normally have an 8 hr photoperiod set the lights to come on at 12 and stay on until 6pm, you may need to tinker with this to get it set right as it's not an exact science but don't feel you can never have a tank in sunlight as it's not true. our house is small and all 3 of our big tanks get sunlight at some point, we've learnt to work around it.

if your tank is next to a door just make sure the door doesn't hit the tank, put in a door stop if nescessary
