Popeye ?

Hi guys
I have just noticed that one of my fav fishes has what looks to be popeye . This must of happend recently as it didnt have it a few days ago . Does anyone know about this disease is it contagous should i treat the whole tank ? or put him in the hospital tank? .He is the only fish affected but does not seem bothered by it at all , still eating and chasing as he usualy does. I have heard it could also be a sign of dropsy , i have taken a pic but it dosent show up that well. Could somebody reccomend a med i dont want to lose this fish .

hi im in the uk , i have some melafix it says it treats popeye do you think it will be ok to put him in the hospital tank and treat with this ?

Don't bother with the melafix, you will need anti internal bacteria med by interpet, yes treat in the hospital tank, good luck.

Thanks but i couldnt wait and i had already put him in the hospital tank with the melafix , this morning his eyes look much better he is very stressed though ,lost all his colour but i think he is going to be ok .
I will keep an eye on him (no pun intended) and see how he goes .I will also buy some anti internal bacteria med just incase he takes a turn for the worst .

Just thought i would give you an update, the little guy is all better now ,his eyes are back to normal and he is back in the main tank

Thats good news bless him, not having ago but i you sure it was popeye and he hadn't had an accident in the tank, as never know melafix to be to good only on cuts and wounds.

Hi first thing he did on his return to the tank was fight for his spot back with the other pulpican so i would say it could have been a battle wound but both eyes were affected .

What ever it was he is all better now and looks very happy ruleing his side of the tank
