we have a platy whose scales appear to be flaking off and one of the guppies keeps trying to feed off the platies scales. I've had a look on several websites to see what could be wrong but cant seem to find any info. Can anyone help?

Make a thread in the tropical fish emergencies m8, somone in there will be able to you better :)

Flaking scales can be due to columnaris, bad water quality, parasites, so need more info.
Can you post your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph.
Is the fish flicking and rubbing against objects.
Any white edging to the scales.
Anything under the scales.
Any excess slime on the fish body or gills.

The fish is not flicking or rubbing against anything. There is no white edging to the scales and nothing to see under the scales. Also no excess slime on the fish.

It seems to be only the one guppy that is annoying the fish, the others are not taking any notice of the platy. She is feeding normally and is only distressed by the one guppy.

We do a regular water change and have a fluval filter. Water stats have been normal, will test again asap.

Any white fluffy bits on the scales.

No white fluffy bits either. Its a complete mystery, apart from the flaky scales she seems perfectly healthy.

Thanks, will read the link and check the water stats again. Would it be an idea to put her or the guppy in another tank so that the guppy doesnt distress her even more?

Do you have anywhere to put her, if she stressed yes.

We have another tank we can transfer her to, so I'd better get her ready for a move.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep everything crossed she'll be ok, I think the plaities are lovely and would hate to lose her, we've successfully had 2 babies from them.

The only thing is if she does have something like parasites you can be transferring them to another tank.
Good luck.
