Have just purchased 3 salt n pepper platties, I asked for 1 male & 2 females But when we got home I found they were all girls. However that is not the problem, one of them had clamped tail & fins & also had sunken sides. (I didnt notice in the shop) Last night she was just resting on the bottom of the tank although she did take some food. Today her fins are normal but she is still keeping her tail clamped. She has again had some food & alternates with a swim around the tank & then resting on the bottom for a while. She is really skinny & I dont know what to do for her. Any ideas please?

Does she have stringy white poo? Because the other signs sound like internal parasites... :/

Otherwise, what are your water params?

SO far I haven't seen any poo, stringy or otherwise.
Water is; ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 25
Nitrite - 0
PH - 7.2

The water sounds perfect. So it's not that. So she's still eating, and swimming a bit, but she has a sunken tummy? I'd see if she has stringy poo...because it really sounds like internal parasites to me. :(

Will keep an eye on her. Of course I dont know the water stats of the store she came from. If it wasnt for the fact that I went 20 miles to get these fish I would have gone back as soon as I realised. It wasnt worth doing the journey again for £1.50. As the platties were being netted I was too busy watching my new corys & I hadn't noticed this particular fish when I first looked in the tank.
Thanks for the prompt reply Annastasia.

Im not blaming anyone, but sometimes in the stores the fish are kept in large amounts and some of the fish are un-able to receive food, this might be a case of a simple starving fish...

There were quite a few of them in the tank. The one who is poorly does seem rather shy as does one of the others bought at the same time. When I go over to the tank she will come to the front but in the rush for food she hangs back, just eating what comes her way. The mollies & swordies will pick in the gravel for the catfish pellets & wafers ( the mollies throw the wafers round like frisbees ) but the platties wont do this.
