I noticed yesterday that one of my mollys has puffed up and his scales are sticking out and really defined. He seems ok and swims around as usual.

Any suggestions? :/

Sorry there is nothing to be done, once the scales stick out with dropsy last stage of the desease organ failure.

There is nothing that can be done to cure the affected fish, but you really really really want to remove that fish from the rest of the tank. 1) the disease may be spreading already and 2) when the affected fish passes, the other fish may nibble on the corpse and therefore really increase the chance of spreading the disease

searching for "fish and dropsy" in google finds lots of pictures, but the scales sticking out like a pinecone is classic dropsy. Put the affected fish in a quarantine tank as soon as possible.

Hello, beckys bf here

Becky went to work so i had to sort out the molly, not really being a fish person and not having a second tank i have floated a plasic tub in the tank and put the molly in that.

It seems to have got worse as was just siting on the bottom of the tank, not swimming round with the others.

I have a couple of questions on beckys behalf:

How lightly is this to spread and is there anything else she can do?

Thanks

Should be fine you removed her, it when they peck on the dead body, just some daily water changes on the main tank, good luck.

Thanks for all the info.

Unfortunately when i got home she was dead, but at least i got her out in time.

I have just done a 1/3 water change so fingers crossed the rest of my tank are ok!!!!

Thanks everyone

Becky
