Hi, I've got, amongst other things, a pair of black mollys in my tank. but i went home last week (having to live away in the week atm for work) and one of them had got this strange whitey-blue patch near he gill! It looks white but kind of shimmers blue. my mum had noticed during the week and put white-spot treatment in but it hadn't made a difference. anyway, it seems to be getting worse - by the time I saw her a load of her scales aroubnd the area were sticking out - i'm guessing this is due to swelling !?Does anyone have the faintest idea what could be wrong? she's not acting funny and the rest of the fish are fine! And now ... my completely unrealted topic (and I knwo this should probably be on the discussion board) but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much space I have left in my tank!? The 'thinkfish.co.uk' calculator reckons I can have up to 78 inches of fish in my tank!!! Seems like a lot to me! lol.Anyway - my dimensions are 48Lx12Dx15(ish)H. at the min i've got ....5 tiger barbsa pair of cherry barbs2 black mollys4 platys1 bristlenose plec1 golden loach1 albino ruby shark6 neons3 gouramis (1 3-spot, 1 honey and 1 kissing)1 siamese fighterand a paradise fishNow I know the plec, kissing gourami and shark are going to grow quite big so I'm not planning on keeping them in there forever - just until they get big enough to want their own tank!Thing is I'd really like to get some little cory cats but I'm worried that I'm overstocking the tnk and don't want to do anything until I'm sure!Any advice you could give me would be great. Thanks

1st, find out what is wrong with your Molly. Read up on fish diseases (pref with pics) and maybe post a pic on here? Then worry about stock. Do you have a hospital tank?

As for stocking your tank, I'm no expert but the Kisser and Shark could get big pretty quick, your fighter and paradise fish could fight (if your paradise fish has long fins) and your livebearers will breed unless you have all one gender!

yea, I'm not planning on putting anything new in for a few weeks anyway - want to make sure the molly's ok before I go introducing new fish.
I've got a book on fish diseases and had a look through but there's nothing that looks or sounds like what's wrong with her! I've put some 'general tonic' in which is supposed to deal with most things if they're caught early enough but I'm worried that it was put in too late as we had to wait a week after putting in the white spot treatment! but if that does nothing I'm really at a loss!
We do have a hospital tank but I'm worried that the stress opf moving her (and separating her from the other molly who she's completely inseperable from normally!) might just stress her out and exacerbate whatever it is!?

Yea, I was worried about having the siamese fighter in there too to start with so we've had the other tank set up just in case but there's been no problems - no fin nipping and him and the paradise fish have all but ignored each other (I have a strangely passive paradise fish - having put him in 'prison' once for killing one of my others right at the beginning he's been on his best behaviour ever since! lol)
