Ok so i have a lovely betta who is white bodied with bits of maroon parts on both his body and fins and lately hes not been looking too well.
14.jpg

Infact he hasnt got a lot of his tail left, which i thought was fin rot so treated it, but the ends of this tail fin is still a dark blue colour (it wasnt blue before he was ill) and slowly keeps disappearing.

Too add to this, its also started to eat away at his body a little but does look like it getting better now after treating it. But visible in his body still are light coloured patches of blue which seem to look like there on the inside of himself.

Now recently hes been acting kinda weird, It looks like hes struggling to swim, maybe because of the body bit, he eats fine and still active spurts but when hes dun he kinda sinks to the bottom and tends to lean on one side of sit lower on the gravel than most bettas tend to do.

Anyone got any ideas cos im out of them! btw used firot and anti internal bacterial medicine

PLEASE !!! xx

DISEASE: SWIM BLADDER DISORDER
GENERAL INFO: This is also a common betta problem. It is not contagious. It comes from overfeeding. It is especially common in very young bettas (30 to 60 days old).

SYMPTOMS: Bettas with a swim bladder disorder will have difficulty swimming, because their swim bladder (located alongside the spine between the belly and the tail) is either too short (causing them to not be able to swim horizontally) or it is swollen (causing them to float on one side). Double Tail bettas, because they have a shorter body, are especially prone to the “floaters” problem. In the case of a short swim bladder, the bettas will not be able to maneuver and swimming becomes so difficult, they prefer to just lay at the bottom, sliding on their bellies, which is why they are called “belly sliders”. And they do look like a pathetic bunch, at that point.

OR a bacterial infection

SYMPTOMS: Betta may have clamped fins, lay at bottom or at surface, not eat, lose its color, turn gray, barely swim around. In more advanced cases, its body may start developing red patches, open sores and all kinds of nasty looking stuff. (Even holes in its head!! YIKES!!)

Hope that helps some

When you say eating away at athe body do you mean peeling or stredding effect, i would do a salt bath o him and get the betta on an antibiotic treatment straight away, and give him a water change.

Does his tail look like it's kinda shredded or like it's evenly being sort of "cut" away?

he may be biting his own tail because he doesn't feel good...

It could be swim bladder - you could maybe try giving him a cooked, shelled, chopped pea - and nothing else besides that for a few days to see if that helps his sinking problem...

as far as the bluishness, I'm not sure.

You might also want to look at him with a flashlight to see if he has any spots on him like powder or gold dust.

Well i dont think its swim bladder disease cos ive seen it before and hes not really got those symptoms, but it could be something more internal thats effecting his swim bladder.

It sounds most like the internal bacterial infection but i have been treating him for a few weeks with this and its not really dont a lot, so put him back on the fin rot for a week cos hes stil losing his tail,

As for the body, its as thought the fin rot has eaten a chunk of out him, kinda brown on the ridges, but to me it looks to be gettin better maybe thats whats making him ill?!

Can you think of any other medicines i can try. I have used ANTI INTERNAL BACTERIAL and FINROT,

Am in the Uk so a limited amount of medicines to buy

Just looked up on the bluish patches slime coat desease, formalin for treatment.
Think that formalin is a amercian med, you can buy a slime and velvet med by interpet.

He is acting like my orchid did. Might want to make sure it isnt columnaris.

In that picture he looks a little like my oldest betta, Frosty. He started getting a ballon-like lump in his tunmmy about a year ago and it was so bizzare I even wrote a song about it. I tried averything I could think of and even had a vet friend look at it after someone had suggested it might be a cist or tumor that might be removable or drainable. The vet didn't want to pop my fish and said it looked like he was not bothered by it, in fact we could think of it as "unique". ( A balloon bellied betta?) A while later the huge pregnant-looking bulge faded away and then a smaller lump appeared in his dorsal fin. Now his belly has some swelling again but it looks not as clear and symetrical as before. I think it's denser too, because he swims around less and spends a lot of time resting on a convenient "hammock" of elodea stem with his snout right at the water surface. I've had him a good year and a half or so at least now, so i figure he's not young anymore. :/

Jen if you PM me I can arrange to send you some maracyn and maracyn II. Let me know the tank size in litres then I know how much to send you. Treating with these two together usually covers most things.
