120 litre fluval, planted, 3 corys, 1 bulldog plec, 6 guppies, 6 danios, 2 dwarf gourami, 2 otos.
tank stats all ok. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate, ph8

one of my male zebra danios is swimming about "on the p*ss". he's almost flat some times, also breathing hard.

rest of the tank inhabitants all seem healthy.

any ideas what the problem is and how best to cure if possible. will it infect the other fish, and if so how quickly? my hospital tank is currently housing 20 fry so i can't quarantine him yet.

Is the fish bloated, can it maintain its balance in the water.
Do you mean its laying on the gravel to oneside.
Heavy breathing not good usually means there dying.
What do you feed the fish?

not bloated, but eating fine. (and pooing)
he's still swimming around and he's even chasing the odd guppy fry, but when he rests he tilts onto his side as if he can't maintain his balance. Symptons have only just appeared in the last 4 hours.

they're fed on nutrafin complete flake daily as a staple, but once a week i've been feeding frozen daphnia for a bit of variety. they've caught the odd live guppy fry too. Not that the danios touch it, but i feed algal wafers to the corys, ottos and plec and i also feed them cucumber occasionally.

He does have a bacterial infection.
Cook some frozen peas for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush between fingers and add to the tank.
I would keep the peas in the diet twice a week, corys love them too.

and the peas will take care of the bacterial infection? I've just put some on the hob, if the missus discovers that i'm cooking for the fish i'm in big trouble!!!

Fish can get constipation peas are a laxatvie for a fish.
It might not work on the fish but best to always try the pea treatment.
Once they lay on the gravel bad news been there many a time in the past.
Good luck.
Cooking for fish, she will have you cooking for her next, lol.
