I am new to fish keeping. My black molly appears to be gasping at the surface and below. Water test shows everything is fine and all other fish appear fine too. Anyone any ideas what to do. The tank has two air stones which are working well.

Welcome to TFF,
Can you please post your water parameters(ammonia, nitrite, nitrate&pH)readings.
Tank size?
How long has your tank been setup?
Has your filter been cycled?
What fish are in the tank?
How often do you perform a water change?

Sorry to bombard you with questions but it will hopefully identify what needs to be done.

Skins.

readings tonight....ammonia nitrite and nitrate are all nil....ph is 7
tank zize = 165L
setup for 5 weeks
filter has been cycled
fish = 4 mollies, 4 harlequins, 4 neon tetras, 3 guppys, 2 blue rams
water change weekly

hope that helps

as said all other fish appear totally fine

Hello again,
5 weeks to cycle your filter, did someone give you some mature filter media? OR did your local fish shop(LFS) sell you a bottle of filter start, cycle or something else in a bottle.
What test kit are you using?
When you do your weekly water change is it declorinated before putting into aquarium?
Have you used any treatments lately?
The fish in question:
Has it got pale(lost its colour)?
Is it feeding?
are its fins clamped(tucked into its body)?
Is it flicking, rubbing itself against gravel or ornaments?

Sorry for all the questions again.
Skins.

yeah..used some good bacteria additives....tank was cycled in 3 weeks
test kit is local multi kit....seems fine (I hope)
new water is mixed with safe start before change
just a nitrate reducer last week....although results were less than 10
fish looks fine in colour and is feeding...not flicking or rubbing but is moving tail fin fast but just hovering

thanks for your interest

When you say safe start do you mean Tetra safe start because this is not a declorinater, you need Tetra aqua safe.
If you have been treating tap water with Tetra safe start then you will need to purchase some tetra aqua safe URGENTLY. Not dechlorinating your tap water will kill the bacteria which keeps the ammonia/nitrites in check it will also put your fish under stress.
If the above is the case then please do the following steps:
a) purchase tetra aqua safe
b) empty 90% of aquarium water and replace with dechlorinated water(This will get rid of the chemicals that have been applied),
(water to roughly match tank water temp, use hot water from a boiled kettle to mix with your cold tap water)
c) Do not put any more chemicals in(bacteria additives/nitrate reducer/safe start)
d) Go to this link which will then guide you through what we call a fish in cycle, you will find it under Cycling where you will find other useful info e.g whats cycling & the nitrogen cycle. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/277264-beginners-resource-center/

Hope this helps, Skins.

P.S please don't think you have done anything wrong, it sounds like your local fish shop has mislead you but then at the end of the day all they want is your hard earned money.

What's the name of the test kit you are using?

Gasping can be lack of aeration, bad water quality, toxins, ph shock, parasites, bacterial, fungal.

Immediate water change and increase aeration.
Does the fish show any other symtoms apart from gasping.
Does she dart around the tank, flick and rub, excess mucas. Any tiny white spots on the fish body or gills.
What do the fish gills look like.
Do they look pale with excess slime, or red and inflamed.

Have you just added the molly to the tank.
