My female betta fish, algae, has a weird kink on her. It looks like she broke her spine... I'm not sure.

She always swims in her "S" form, even in a straight line. Did I do something wrong to make her like this? :-(
She eats and swims fine (other than her odd form) but but I fear it might get worse.

I didn't notice. She was just all excited and happy so I thought she was healthy.
Also, she was quite small. :/

I also have a female that I bought from a pet store very small, and now she has a weird little kink to her spine. I'm sure you didn't cause it in any way. As long as she's eating and swimming without too much trouble, I wouldn't worry about it. I've never seen one get any worse once the fish was full-grown.

How long have you had her?

How how do you do your water changes. If you just dump the water into the tank then you could have serious problems. This swishes the betta's around, and can seriously injure them. Just think about it, a giant wall of water crashing down onto a teeny fish, what's the first thing that will give?

Do you have her in a community tank? She might have gotten into a scruff with another fish and injured herself. Also, do you have anything in your tank that could have fallen onto her, or that she could have got stuck in?

I've had her for about a month and half now.
To do my water changes, I take her and about a quarter of the water out, clean, add new water then put her in the water in.
And she has her own 1.5 gallon tank. She's never been with another fish before.
Yeah, I hope it doesn't harm her in any way. She doesn't seem bothered by it.

It might just be a birth derformity. If shes eating and swimming and acting normally then I'm sure that it's nothing to worry about. but keep an eye on her, because a bent spine can be a sign of fish tb, but Im sure thats not the case!

Hi there

I have a female with the exact same problem. I have had her for a year now and she is as healthy and happy as can be. However she is the betta female most picked on by the others in the Sorority and I have never had a sucessful set of eggs come from her, but she has the most personality and always swims by when I am looking at the tank. Just keep an eye on yours.

I have a tiny little girl with a kink in her spine. I was given her by a breeder, she is very sweet, also has sb issues but she is a fighter...

Well, at least I'm not the only one with this problem.
And it seems that none of your fish have any big problems so I think mine should be okay.
