P.S. Fish are not people....They are animals.

There is only one localy owned petstore here left (they have small selection of small animals, and fish) and I shop there for EVERYTHING fish related (I also support the other store in a neighbooring town when I get the chance to). I could get everything cheaper from Walmart, but I choose not too, because if too many people shop at Walmart and leave them in the dust, then they would have to end up shutting down (and that would be horrible as they have great store...). I am one of their regular customers, I go there atleast once a week and the owner and the 2 people (not including one persons daughter) working there all know my name. Plus I've been offered a job their many times, but havn't taken it yet, might look into it for next summer. And thats all I gotta say...

Agreed
TFF members, you gotta remember a couple things about pet stores and fish:
1)Their tanks may apear to be overstocked but i promise you all their stock of fish will be gone with in a week and then they get a new stock in, so there is no problem with LFS/LPS tanks being "over stocked".
2)Bettas are fine next to eachother, i have a devided tank, sure for the first half hour they were flaring, then they got used to eachother and just left eachother alone. So thats fine aswell.
3)When you see sick fish in LPS tanks, remember that most of the time the employees there no next to nothing about fish and don't usually care about them and arn't as dedicated to them as we are and were only looking for the job to get some extra cash, so its best to explain to the employees there and the manager.

my two cents

DD, I agree with ur sentiments exactly! There are 3 LFS near me which i've bought dry goods and fish from. 2 of them are chains and the other one is independent. The indie LFS has a wide range of marine and tropical fish. It also has everything you need to start an aquarium. From a simple goldfish bowl to a 6ft tank.

All the staff there know what they are talking about and are only too happy to offer help and advice.

The pets at home near me is pretty poor at looking after fish, i bought most of my fish from there until i realised there was a huge LFS only 30mins away on the bus, so i went and was amazed at the size of the place, number of fish and how well they were (calder valley koi). They didn't have any bettas though, so i'll just see if they get some.
