So I've inherited more fish since another friend of mine is moving out of the state... This weekend, I go to see what fish I'm getting/fostering and there is one, lone clown loach who looks like he just gorged on a hamburger. What do I do with him? My feeling is I should isolate him and not feed him for the next 5-7 days. Any other suggestions?

My immediate thought is what size of tank was he/she kept in?

They like to be with other loaches. What has he/she been fed?

They do get fatter before they get longer so if he/she is put in a good sized tank this may help but my advice is they need a large tank as they grow +++. I also would get some more clown loaches.

Otherwise it may need vegetables as well as bloodworms.

He was in a 65 gallon four foot long tank. I have a 55 gallon four foot long tank, but it's not done cycling. He was solo in the 65 gallon and is solo now; temporarily in my 30 gallon now. Anyway, he was just fed flakes, but my guess is since he was the last fish to be rehomed... he must have gotten all the flakes to himself.

I'm not sure if I should keep him since I'm not sure if 3-5 clown loaches would be okay in a 55 gallon along with everything else I want in it. But I do have him for now until he's rehomed or I make room for him and buddies in the 55. Not sure.

Clown loaches tend to gorge on food when you feed them, I have 2 and they get really fatr if i let them

Dont worry about having just one, Although 2 would be better.

People always say you need a huge tank and 5+ clown loaches but the truth is 2 in a tank you size will be fine for a few years at least, Then you might have to think of rehoming them.

If you do decide to buy more, make sure you get the biggest and brightest ones in the shop, Small clown loches tend to die of shock, and if clowns are sick they go really pale.

He seems better now. *whew* Of course, it looks like he's been pooping all throughout the night also; oh well, time for a cleaning.

As for keeping him, I would definately not continue having him solo. I love group dynamics too much. B)
