UPS delivered my Coralife PC lights today (thanks dad).... and I opened them up to make sure nothing is broken. There's a little note in there talking about how the lights have two switches so you can simulate a dawn/dusk effect. One row of lights are Actinic03 and one row is 10,000k daylight. The standard way of doing things is to run Actinics for the entire 12-14 hour photoperiod, and 10,000k for 8-10 of it... with the rest acting as your sunrise/sunset time. So..... onto Poor Design 101.
The little note is a warning that says that the fans are on the switch that contains.... guess what.... the 10,000k lights. That means that by default, you would run the fans far far less than the lights themselves, I guess leaving 120w of powr compact lights to build up heat for 4-6 hours a day, depending on what you set the photoperiod for. Just silly.
So my first step once I get home today is to take it apart, put the Actinics on the front row so they'll turn on the fans.... and put the 10,000k on the back row. It amazes me how well made these things can be, and how nice they can look.... great quality.... and then they do something stupid like that. Oh well... *shrug*
