I have 4 Dwarf neon blue rainbowfish that I got a week ago, and ever since i bought them, they have been having problems with their poop. The fish will poop normal, brown poop, but it doesnt come out of their bum. It just hangs there, getting longer and longer untill somebody bites it off or it dissolves in the water (which is a very long time). The fish swim normally and dont act like anything is wrong. There doesn't seem to be any visible worms or parasites in their poop.

My water quality is:
nitrate: 10
nitrite" 0
gh: soft ;75
kh: 4
ph: 6.8

More info in my sig.

Bacterial infection?

My 2 silver mollies are the same. Sometimes it can get a few inches long before it breaks off. None of the other fish in my tank suffer from this problem, just the mollies.

They are fed on a both flake food and bloodworm if that makes a difference.

Mollies also need vegetable matter in their diet. Once or twice a week is good. Try peas, sprouts, broad beans, spinach- blanched/lightly boiled and chopped, the peas and beans deshelled. Also very thin slivers of apple, pear or banana- but small amounts only.

My Opaline gourami is also very bad with 'strings of poop' and it can be on it for hours...yuck! And when it falls the fish eat it then spit it out, except my yellow balloon molly, who eats the hole thing and chews it as if it's enjoying it!
Thanks dwarf gourami for giving advice on what to feed them to try and stop it!

I have some real plants in there and I put lettuce in for my Silver Dollars so I dare say they get a go on that too but I have not noticed them eating it.

Thanks for the advice I will try tham with some shelled peas and some apple I think...
