I've been looking around and can't seem to find it anywhere - even the pool supplies store here doesn't carry it. Anyone know where you can buy pool filter sand? I am specifically interested in black colored sand.

The 3M company makes black (an other colored sands) suitable for the aquarium. I belive you can order from them. You can also order Tahitian Moon sand from sever fish supply websites. It's pretty expensive though.

3M colorquartz is what he's talking about. I have it in my tank. It's a great black color and better than 1/2 the price of tahitian moon sand. You need to wash it alot though.

There are a couple places near NYC that stock it as I recall. 3M has a listing of all their distributors on their webpage.

you aren't going to find black pool filter sand. it's designed to sit in the bottom of the pool filter and not go anywhere, thus it doesn't need to be pretty colors. however, if you can't even find boring old sandy-colored sand, then i don't really know what's wrong with your area. :dunno:
