In my tank i have gravel and sand together. The gravel is at the back and around the edges and the sand is at the front (argos playsand). Now im stocked the fish poo has started falling onto the sand and then it starts decomposing and turning the sand green. What should i do? I have the juwel rio 125 and i use the standard 600lph internal filter. Is this poo having a negative effect on my tank? I dont have test kit so im not sure if it is causing any ammonia etc, but, no fish are showing any bad signs.

Thanks

Is it a dark green colour? I would guess its not good for the tank, Do you not clean your sand? If so how often and if not then why not? i suggest for now use a net, try gettin the worst of it away if u dont have any access to clean your sand with a proper devices :P

yeah I would suggest getting a gravel vac to suck up the stuff from on the sand. Plus it will help you keep your tank clean overall.

Could it be algae ? Use a siphon hose to suck the poo off the sand. It will suck up a little bit of the sand. Hold it as far up from the sand as you can while still sucking up the poo. You should stir up the sand once a month as well.

It's algae, i got it even before any fish was in, just plants, because i had to much light and no CO2, soon sorted that though :)
