i have a 39 litre tank, i was gonna set it up as a reef corals and all, but i dont no if i wanna spend more on marines since i already have a 180 marine set up.

i may go for a nice tropical with a few plants .... heres where u tropical pros come in :p

stocking options how many and some interesting tropical fish i can house together in a 39 litre please!!

also i no about tap water add the de chlorinator do i need to add anything to start it to cycle like something dead, or is the ammonia test bottles u get pure ammonia, maybe a dumb question ....

thanks in anticipation :fun:

well, 39L is little over 10gallons, your limited with stocking unfortunatly, with small fish your looking at about 6-7, you could possiblly stretch it.

When I had my 10gallon, I had 5 black skirt tetras, 1 dwarf gourami and 4 peppered cory cats.
The tank was a little overstocked, however most of those fish produce minimal waste, look around for some suggestions and research the fish you want and make sure you can keep them in that type of set-up.

As for the ammonia question, sorry no clue.

Do you mean do ammonia testers contain pure ammonia.... Thats confused me!
Research fishless cycling, if you search for members RDD1952 or Miss Wiggle its in their signatures.
This should explain everything you need to know about cycling....
Edited to add; Oh, i'd personally avoid dwarf gouramis at the mo. Theres a few health related issues associated with them currently, see DGIV link in my sig.
I'd go for honey gourami.

6-7 fish sounds like alot wen u consider marine i was looking at 2 :p

i liked the dwarf gouramis tooo! but honey gouramis are just as nice. how about harlequins will they be okay ?

in regards to tetras which looks better a shoal of 1 variety or a shoal of mixed variety if they do indeed mix into a shoal together im not 100% sure!

tropical is alot of reasearch! after 7 months of working with them all i no is basics and random sizes and facts about fish lol!

Hey, Shibby. :)

When I had my 10g I had a dwarf gourami, a few hatchetfish and some shrimp. I don't recommend hatchets for beginners, though. Only two out of 12 survived. :(

Shrimp are fun to watch, though. Amano Shrimp and Ghost Shrimp are common ones and they eat algae. My dwarf gourami that I got from liveaquaria did fine until it went carpet surfing. I would recommend quarantine if you get one, though.

For the tetras, most people will say one group of one species looks better. Also, most different types don't school with each other.

For stocking suggestions... one of my favorites are cories. There's lots of different kinds and they're really active fish. My favorites are panda cories.

So... I would do:
6 cories (one of the smaller kinds, like pandas, albinos, etc)
some shrimp (they don't add much bioload)
and a dwarf gourami.

Oh yeah, one other thing, if you get cories, try to use sand as the substrate because they sift through it and it could hurt their barbels (whiskers).
Good luck.

cheers n3ont3tra!

i do like cories and i do love the dwarf gouramis particulaly the red colour variation!

shrimp ive seen yamoto and rock shrimp n there a pita to catch!!!

i was thinking about some harlequin rasboras, 1 dwarf gourami or honey gourami, maybe 2 cories albino and bronze. and perhaps 2 shrimp, i can loose the shrimp if need be though! may leave the shrimp to the marine side :p

i was thinking either harlequin rasboras or neon tetras but in my experiance neon tetras seem to drop dead like flies! may go for the glowlight or black variety for some reaseon they seem hardier!!

and i have a sand/small gravel mixture would that be okay?! i can change it if need be!

Germ, not all Dwarf Gouramis are at risk if a few have died. They should still be fine.

Not neccessarily, but IMHO its just not worth the risk unless you can guarantee they haven't been kept with infected fish or imported from Singapore.
Just my personal take mind you....
