Hi, I am treating my fish for worms with levamisole HCL. One member said that “poly fiber” can remove the drug , thus I should stop filtration....Stoping filtratin for 24hrs scares me! is it ok!?

What is “poly wool” ? I have rena xp3 with this fine white “wool” like filter that seems like it would be poly wool….

My problem is that I add my medication after removing my carbon but I didn’t know about this “poly wool” …my filter ran for about 15 minutes…. With no carbon but with its usually coarse, then finer, then “poly wool” filter. Should I add more drug because of poly wool in the filter that was running for 15 minutes?

I guess I would not need to add more drug, but I would like experienced help…

Thanks

Only carbon will remove the meds. You're perfectly fine using the poly wool.

A "polyfilter" will remove meds but this is a specially treated (& expensive) white fluffy sheet not the normal floss.
You'd know if you had one.

hmmm, well I had my filters off all night....in my 29g my "prized" Denisions Barb died, I now have four...
No deaths in my 55g yet....

I have turned my filter back on my in 29g, I think I will turn the 55g filter back on now too....

Darn, I think I misunderstood some advice and killed my fish! I looked back, the member didnt tell me to stop filtration he/ she said "poly wool and carbon can remove the drug" I assumed I had poly wool, I know now I do not have polywool....

The barb that died showed no signs of illness whatsoever, he was the biggest and apparently healthy....I suspect ammonia killed whilt the filter was off for 11 hrs.....agree? Darn, these fish are 60$ each at my LFS now....At least I got them for 35$ each....
