Ive always wondered if its normal, We have 3 Zebra loach and a polka dot loach, When they eat something pretty big like a meal worm or a prawn, They make a clicking sound, It sounds like a piece of gravel tapping on the side of the tank.

Why and how do they do this??

 mine click so loud you can hear them from the next room !

It's very normal indeed ;)

Usually when they are content (at feeding times!) or have some nice yummy food they want all to themselves and try to "scare" away the other fish.
As to how they do it, I don't know :)

Just did a quick google and this is what it says here :

LOACHES

PERSONALITY:
Loaches originate in Europe, North Africa, and Asia. They are small, bottom-dwelling fish. Their bodies may be covered with small scales and are generally elongated and cylindrical. Some have a flattened belly. Their mouths are surrounded by 3-6 pairs of antennas. Some loaches have two spines beneath the eyes used for defense, and for shredding the fins of other fish. They may even slash the fingers of unwary owners! The spines make a clicking sound when raised and lowered; this can be heard when the fish are feeding or terrorizing a tank-mate.

It's perfectly normal, they usually do it when they're excited about food or a water change.

the loaches clicking is great, a bala clicking sounds bad, is it maybe the sound of the pelets being crushed or is the shark knocking a heater against the side of the tank?
