Well I got 5 Tiger Barbs two days ago and two of them are just hanging out just below the surface of the water and pointing head down but not all the way down. All five were swimming around fine yesterday. At night they would kind of do this to but today I've only seen 3 of them today and all three are pointing. My other fish are fine, acting completely normal. Including the other three fish I bought at the same time and place as the barbs. I checked my water stats and everything is good. Whenever they do swim they swim fine but they rest in this position. The biggest of the group, is one of the two hanging up top and she(?) has a red spot where her butt is. They also seem to be kind of gulping. What is going on and what can I do to help them? I don't want this to affect my other fish.

The one who had the red spot (and I thought was doing best) has died and I found the body of one of the missing two, still looking for the other one. The two living ones arn't looking so hot and will probably be gone by morning...

Did you acclimate them slowly??
If it's just the ones you just purchased and the other ones are acting fine my guess is you got some bad fish. I would go back to the store and get a refund/replacement. ( I wouldnt want replacement fish if the others just died )

Yeah I acclimated them slowly and thats what I'm thinking. It sounds bad but I'm kinda glad, I didn't really want tiger barbs because of their nippy reputation but the parents loved them. I'll return them and get something else.

I just checked and everything is 0. All of the Tiger barbs are dead, I'll be taking them in for store credit this afternoon. All the other fish are fine.

How many fish did you add at the same time as the barbs?

How many fish have you added in say the last 2 weeks?

How many fish are in there altogether?

What are you using to test your water?

Was there 0 nitrates too?
