Currently I am unable to expand my tank collection and get expierence with new fish. So to fill me want for more knowledge I am now reading all that I can and learning more about different fish and aquariums this way. I have always been fascinated with brackish, especially puffers and wish to get some hard material (books) on puffers. My library doesn't have a good selection but I can get books from different librarys, I order all the books that come up on searches but was wondering if anybody has any good books on puffers in particular or brackish fish/aquariums.

Thanks :good:

Neale Monks has a good book on brackish water fish and care. Here is a link to his web site with the book title, you can buy off the net from various sites. Neale Monks's books. As for a book with nothing but Puffer info, I know of none. I sure would like to know if any are out there as well.

Thanks for the promo, Puff Daddy!

As well as my book (which is really about brackish water fishes generally, with a chapter on puffers) the other two books on puffers are one by Klaus Ebert in the Aqualog series, and another by Chris Ralph, in the Fishkeeper's Guide series. Of the two, it's probably fair to say that the Aqualog one is the better of the two and certainly covers far more species and has much better photography. But the Ralph one is cheap and cheerful, and that certainly makes it more attractive to some potential purchasers. It's also worth mentioning the Aqualog book of brackish water fishes by Frank Schaefer; he takes a different approach to me, concentrating exclusively on mid to high salinity species.

Cheers, Neale

I bought Neale's book recently and its a great read, well worth the investment.

Thanks, I knew about nmonks website, didn't know about his book, will look into that. I will check out those four books from the librarys around me, see which one's I like best and invest in one or two possibly. I'm also researching corals and I have a coral book to buy first for reference.

nmonks, if I buy your book, is there a certain website I can buy it from that benefits you more?

Nope, doesn't make any difference. All that matters is it sells! So if Amazon is cheapest, go for it. But thanks for the kind thoughts... it's a good book, especially the bits by people other than me!

Cheers, Neale

Hmm well none of the libraries in my branch have any of the books, nor any that I can find just searching through the catalog. I guess since I can not find any I will head over to borders and see if they have any copies and check their prices on them, if their cheaper than amazon I may buy one or two there if not I'll have to look at buying one or two online, yours will probably be one of yours Neale.

thanks for the help :good:

edit: Have you Neale or anyone else have any expierence of buying used books on amazon, I'm thinking I could get more if I bought them used.
