Once again, a LFS ends up confusing me with their bad labelling of fish. This one was called "orange fin barb", but after looking it up orange finned barbs are supposed to have a thick black stipe going down the length of their body, aka "Dusky Black-Striped Barb". I bought them anyway because I thought they were mislabelled Chequer Barbs, but those are supposed to be smaller than Tiger Barbs (only around 2") but now they're longer than the regular TBs I've had since March (the albinos are new and smaller):
Can someone help me ID these please? I need info on how to take care of them, they've been extremely shy, barely moving away from their hiding place in the corner of the tank behind some plants, and they bury themselves even deeper into the plants when I approach the tank. I had to bust out my telephoto lens for these guys LOL the next picture was taken at 450mm (equiv.) from about 3-4ft away:
I'm not sure if this is normal and what I can do about it. They do eventually come out during feeding time though, and other than staying hidden all the time they look healthy with no nips from any of all the other barbs in the tank. They also exhibit barb-like tendencies to chase its own kind once in a while (not to mention the classic barb fins).
size compared to newly purchased albino TBs and Thicklip Gouramis (the ones in the next picture were purchased earlier and are almost twice as big as the ones in the picture after):
If these are tinfoils I'll have to give them to my naturalist friend who has plenty of large tanks and ponds at home. My tank is just a 4ft 45 gallon.
(not done adding plants and substrate, slight miscalculation LOL. Also yes, I know, the hornworts need pruning =)
