Commons (and sailfins for that matter) are usually absolutely fine with Mbuna due to their sheer size - i keep a common with mine with no issues whatsoever.
The question here concerns keeping the more colourful and unusual L numbers with Mbuna, which is not impossible but whilst the more delicate species may survive, they are likely to lead a pretty miserable life in a Mbuna tank.
