No. They may survive it, but it wouldn't be what's best for them, and in the long run their health and lifespan would be affected.

ok thanks. i wernt going to put them in cold water. just wondered as my cousin had a 12" salfin in his pond. live for 8 years.

A sailfin plec may well survive in a pond in the subtropics (e.g. Florida) for twelve years and as exotics they have become quite well established in southern Florida and one or two other places in the US. But absolutely not in the UK or anywhere else where the winter temperatures drop below 18C for any length of time.

No they get in coldwater. Mainly all plecos do need a heater. Coldwater they die quick and get infected directly.

that post combined with the one about plecos 'blowing out' with too much veg has led me to this conclusion, i wouldn't mind if he came back and explained himself but he doesn't, like an automated response machine. If he can post something that makes some sense or backs up one of his statements i may reconsider but i stick with it till then.

That suggests to me that you think i was rude to Kathy? I have re-read was i posted and i dont see how that could be true, matter of fact maybe but certainly not rude, was simply giving the reasoning behind my original post.

and i have just re-read my last 2 pages of posts from this forum and apart from this guy who just posts like that everywhere and the SUPEREXCITABLETRIOPS poster all posts have given out information relevant to the original thread so i don't see where your comments relating to having a go at people come from either tbh.
