When I purchased my Juwel Rio 240 (second hand) it also came along with a small hexagon fronted flat backed tank (22 litres 15 inches at widest point). In this tank was a clown loach and a common pleco - waaaaaay too small for either - but how could I refuse them?

At the moment they are both in my community tank which is by no means ideal for the pleco - but he's better off now than he was.

I want to know - when I set up the Malawi tank - can the Pleco be safely housed in there? Or is it best to try and rehome him? He's totally adorable and will keep him if he can go into the 4ft tank.

Many thanks,

Lesley

I'm confused, why cant he be in the community?

but to answer your ?, yes he should be fine in the mbuna tank as long as you give him a nice hideyhole to get into and not get stuck in, one that will grow with him or afford him enough room, pvc pipes work great for this, and if you like, silicone the outside and roll it around in dry gravel so it gives it a better more appealing look then white tacky pvc.

Hi Lesley

I have two plecos in my 4ft Malawi Tank one is 10inch and the little one is about 4inch. I also got a placo in my Tanganikan Tank. All are happy. Like big mama fish said as long they got enough hiding spaces they are fine.

A common will be fine with Mbuna, more than capable of taking care of themselves.

Thanks for the replies. Phew am glad he'll be ok in with the Malawis. I didn't explain myself very well did I... my community tank is only 97lts 2' 6" long tank - so not really big enough for him when he gets bigger. He's already about 6 inches long - want to make him as comfotable as possible.

You've all put my mind at rest - thanks!

Lesley
