i've been offered a pleco, not sure of the type, age, size yet, but i was wondering if i should even bother. would it be ok in my 72gal community tank? or better the question; would the community do okay?

I keep four pleco's and no problem apart from at feeding :D,
Pleco's are fine and tend to mind there own buisness
Any Common/Bronze or L-Numbers should do fine. Commons are cheap and easy to look after- Your tank is big enough in my opinion.
Any other questions either post here or PM me!
Hope i helped
Animation.

Your tank is definately large enough for a pleco (i think the MINIMUM recomended size is 55 gal). It should also be fine with your tank mates. I see no reason to not if you like them.

Be sure you read up on their needs before getting one. They need more food than just algae.

Keep in mind that a common plec will get to 18". They don't grow all that slow either so be aware of that. Also, know that plecs are HUGE waste producers so you'll need to make sure the fish has plenty of gallonage to itself. Also, don't get more than one. They are territorial (commons are anyway) and, considering their eventual size, need plenty of room.

To be on the safe side, either find out for certain what it is or take a picture of it and ask in the catfish section. (Actualy, this should be in the catfish section.)

Random observation - you need to add to your tetra/minnow schools. They need to be in groups of 6 minnimum.

Also, research your CAE ('chinese' 'algae eater'/sucking 'loach' - you have the gold morph) as I don't know whether or not you are aware of this creatures (often nasty) habits and its misleading name(s).

it would be a 'sylvia' to give me such in-depth and wonderful information ;) i named my daughter sylvia after my great-grandmother.

i read that they needed to be in larger schools. i was thinking of adding more because of that and because of the fact that everyone in my tank minus the cats and the molly are aggressive now. i think they're all mad.

i did read that the 'Adult specimens are often best kept alone'.
after reading for the past few minutes, i've come across some very interesting, yet disturbing finds. these fish eat whole fish?! since adding them, i've lost, (and i mean LOST, disappeared, gone), three fish. a male guppy died, and so did my frog. i figured it was the fish, they were sick, i never suspected the CAE.
now i suspect otherwise.

all i have to do now is get rid of the algae eaters because buying a separate tank for just one is not an option at this time.

thank you again for your information ;)
