Pleco Needs Good Home - Manchester Area

I'll take a stab that its a common plec then ;)

L-Numbers refer to the species of pleco - normally used for more exotic ones ;)

Im in the manchester area - can you show me a pic of either your one or one that is identical..... and give me an idea on size??

Em

Hey,

Mr Plec is around 10 inches. Not sure what type he is as he was given to me by a friend a couple of years ago and she had already had him a good couple of years.

Will get you a photo sorted ASAP.

Joanne :)

Here's Mr Plec:

Just taken me ages to get him to keep still in and to get an OK shot lol :D

Yep - Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps, aka "Sailfin"or "Gibby". They grow huuuuge, 18" to 2ft and need a minimum of a 5ft x 2ft x 2ft tank (bigger if they reach the maximum size) with superb filtration. Beautiful fish though!

Do you think that could be why Mr Plec (Common Plec) and this one are chasing each other around and getting agressive? This is the main reason I need rid of one of them and this one (Gibby) has been with me since the start of the tank so im afraid he wins, hence me getting rid of Mr Plec lol :/

I've had him around 2 1/2 years now and he's around 7inches but seems to be having a growth spert at the moment lol, Obviously if he gets too big I will get a new tank or rehome him. I thought he wasnt a common due to strange markings on him unlike my common plec.

Cheers for info, greatly appreciated

To be honest the tank looks awfully small for the fish with too many large ornaments in which reduced the amount of space they have even further.

No probs at all :)

Yeah it's likely the aggression is down to being in together in what looks like a very small tank. Your tank doesn't look very big (sorry, I don't mean to offend). If the tank is small it could explain why the gibby has only grown to 7" so far - so if you want to keep him, he'll need a bigger tank asap. If I've got it wrong and the tank is bigger than it looks, I apologise!

Im planning on getting a bigger tank in Jan when I get paid from a recent job ive been doing. Plan to spend £400 - £500 for a good setup and also will be getting someone to set up the tank for me correctly etc. What size would you recommend I get and what kind of setup could I get for that sort of money?

Heres a pic of the tank, not sure the size. You can see Mr Plec on the castle. Not a very good photo sorry and they had just been fed lol
