I'm taking in a plec from a aquatic rescue centre

All I know is its 10inchs long and she said it was a Gibbicep Pleco

While it was growing it had inadequate hiding spaces and as it grew its hiding place obv shrunk lol

He (i say he as the rescue centre has called it mr smith) would hide his head in the hiding spot but his head and body grew around the object so he has a wired shaped neck.

Here's a few pics that she sent me

Yep, Ppterygoplichthys gibbiceps, showing stress markings. An easy fish to look after, but can get to 18" or bigger, so hope your tank's big enough.

He (or she!) doesn't look in too bad shape, tbh.

The plec was in a bad way when they got him a few months ago and they've nursed him back to health through really bad fin Rot and was left to die in a 2ft tank as his previous owners moved and left him there.

I've got a rio 400 ( 5ftL x20Dx 25) 450L so I've got plenty of space for him in my tank.

Apart from the rear of the head been horrendously deformed he looks a plump little fella... seems like he has been cared for well since his rescue :).

FM's id, is spot on.

The only way to describe it is that he's had a elastic band stuck round his neck and everything's grown but there and from what they've told me I'm surprised he's still alive tbh and they've done a remarkable job

Oh bless him, he's a lovely looking thing despite his funky head ^^
Lovely to hear about fish rescues too- there's not enough of them about IMO :)

I always found that fish who have suffered deformities like that never grow as big as 'normal' fish,so your tank should be plenty big enough.

Good on you for taking him in

Hes beautiful and it looks like he will be very happy in his new home, well done you!!
