Pleco Help

I recently purchased a common Pleco to add to my large tank in hopes that it would control the alge in the tank (i have a pleco in one of my smaller tanks and he does a good job of this). I noticed after a week or so that the pleco started swimming around during the day like a normal fish even in the mid and higher levels of the tank. I also noticed that he has a growth on the side of his mouth and, shortly after i notice the growth, he seems to have stopped cleaning the tank and eating the flake food instead of the alge. Im wondering what i can to to make him eat the alge again and if his behavioral changes are typical any help would nice thanks.

i dont know about the growth, but my pleco was only a cleaner for about a week before he started eating my fishes food instead imve had him for... a year and a half, about lol thats why i got a second pleco, who has been doing his job, so i think its hit and miss lol though neither of them are common plecos.
