Hi,

is it possible that my shelldwellers (multifasciatus) killed my pleco? I got him yesterday he was fine up untill one hour ago and all of a sudden I see him dead! It looked like one of the multifasiatis was aggressive earlier towards him

thanks

It's possible, but I doubt it, Plecos have an armoured body so they can take a beating. My africans are with a common pleco and they're fine. Generally any agressive fish will pick on the new comer(s) to the tank to establish dominance and territory. How long has your tank been set-up? What are the water perameters? What size tank? Were you feeding the pleco supplements such as algea waffers?

I have 4 multi's that are 2 years old or so,

nitrate 5
nitrite 0
amm 0
ph 8.0
temp 82
10 gallon

he died to quick, within one hour of looking at him. He looked happy yesterday when I put him in the tank. ::

Generally they do look happy when placed in the tank. I am sorry to hear about the loss. I'd try another one as, like I said, it's highly doubtful that the 4 multi's killed him.

not any real help to the topic nor am i a plec experts but i wouldnt get another one for that tank if its only a 10 gallon. if it was a common pleco they get to over a foot long and it dont take them long.

They do grow very big but my plan was to return him for a smaller one everytime he got too big, lol

:( don't buy big plecs for small tanks, you'll only end up getting attached to one then you'll either agonize and keep him because you love him and probably end up spending a fortune on a six foot tank to keep him in (dum-de-dum-dum), or worry to death that when you return him some loser with a goldfish bowl will buy him because he's cool...

Also, if you had him a day and he died with no outward sign of injury, I would be toting plec-corpse back to the lfs to ask for money back or another fish in his place, most of them do that if you buy a sick animal, and something was clearly wrong if you don't think anyone killed him and you know your tank to be ok.
