 My two Clown loaches have died, one tonight and one last night with whitespot and finrot.

I noticed whitespot on them and other fish over a weeks ago, I treated the whole tank with a whitespot medication, and put the temperature up a few degrees.

I've treated them every 48 hours - doing about 40% water change before each treatment. So have treated the full tank 4 times all together. After the first two treatments, all the fish seemed to be getting better, with only a few whitespots, but my two clownloaches were covered in them-they looked worse than ever, and I noticed thier back tails were very raggy and looked as if they were getting eaten away.

I put the two clown loaches in a seperate tank to give them more care...now they're both dead

It says on the treatment instructions for whitespot that I should do it every 48 hours for 16 days...all my other fish are totally clear of whitespot...its finrot thats the problem now, 7 fish with it.

I've just done my tests -

Ammonia and Nitrite are both 0.25 - when I checked it 2 weeks ago they were both 0.
PH is still the usual - 7.2
Nitrate - 40

Here's my questions -

Because the finrot is quite bad, and no whitespot is on any of my fish, do I stop the whitespot treatment and begin finrot treatment? Or keep doing the whitespot until it says to stop, then start finrot treatment?

I mentioned this before, I have a Black Ghost Knife in my tank - will he/she be OK with fin-rot treatment? Do I only use half the dosage stated?

I've also noticed a kind of 'sheen' or 'slime coat' on one of my platy's, is this Velvet disease?...that's all I need if it is!

Pleas, please help...I cried yesterday and today because my little clown loaches died - I don't wanna loose any more fish

P.S The whitespot treatment I've been using is called 'Anti white spot plus by Interpet'
The Finrot treatment is called 'King British Fin rot & Fungus contol'

Finrot is common on top of whitespot, and it has sent your tank into a mini cycle, so you need to preform some water changes.
How many gallons is the tank.
The clown loaches did you add the full dose of whitespot med what did it say about scaless fish in the instructions, plus did you increase aeration in the tank.

Its 190 litres (sorry, not sure what that is in US Gallons)

I put in only half the doze that it recommended because of my BGK - But on the instructions for whitespot it said its harmless to all fish except elephant-nose fish.

Maybe I should have put all the treatment in? I was just too scared to because I've heard BGK are bad with medications...don't really know if I've done the right thing or not.

On the finrot bottle it didn't say anything about if it harms a certain type of fish or not...my dad is just by putting half of the doze in just now...he's so worried about them...

Aye I increased the aeration, we have a air-stone in the tank...i just hope they get better
:-(

Oh I forgot to ask...should I do a water change every day? And what percentage should I take out? thanks again :)

Clown loaches are prone to whitespot and it soon can kill them, plus the tank wasn't big enough for them.
Has the whitespot completely gone now, have you run some carbon before adding the finrot med, i would use full dose, and keep aeration going.

I didn't know the tank was too small for them

What do you mean by running carbon before using the finrot med (sorry lol)

Yeah all the whitespot is gone from the fish...just finrot

When you have finished using a med you do a 30% water change, then run a black carbon sponge that removes the med from the tank.
Clown loaches eventually need a 90gal tank.

oh I see what you mean, my dad's took the carbon filter out...when does he put it back in?

I'll know the next time to put the clown loaches in a bigger tank...hopefully get one set up soon

Have you added the finrot med yet as i would of added the carbon sponge for a few hours to get the whitespot med out.

Its my dad that deals with the filters - he doesn't let me near them lol
But he's added the finrot (half the doze) tonight, then took the carbon filter out.
The carbon filter has been in since the whitespot treatments...is this bad?

Yes as the carbon would of been removing the whitespot med as that what it does.

oh I see, grr I wish I knew that - well at least he's removed it this time...I had no idea we had to take the carbon filter out for the whitespot treatment...it didn't say in the instructions...but the finrod med said to take it out...
thanks for all your advice wilder...I'll let you know how things get on-oh, and we now know to remove the carbon before any treatment now lol

Watch out for the whitespot with having the carbon in, good luck.
