I posted a thread a few days ago asking for the minimum size tank i could keep a betta in, i was told a 5g tank, after looking at one it seems a little small to me, i'm actually thinking about a JUWEL REKORD 600, it's 60 x 30 x 42, appox 63 litre tank with 1 x 15 watt T8 tube and a bio flow super pump/filter, will this be ok for a betta and a couple of compaions?

Many thanks,

Mark.

normally you keep bettas on their own but you could try a small group of 4 white clouds.

Ideal, but what i'd really like to know is, would the tank be too big, as i've read that larger tanks are not always the best, and would the juwel rekord 600 be OK for the betta?

Sorry if i wasn't clear enough at the start  .

Many thanks,

Mark.

We meet again Truck. :good:

What size tank mate, i'd like to get one big enough for the Betta and a COUPLE of mates and some good plants, like i said in my last post i personnaly(?spelling) think the 5g is too small.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Mark.

The tank certainly wouldnt be too big, however bettas tend to like to be by themselves. I know many people do keep with with other peaceful fish but i have found it to be difficult and depends on the betta itself. I found other fish to pose the biggest problem as most fish cant resist nipping a betta.

So a 5g it is then, but IF, and it's a BIG IF i wanted to keep 5/6 females what size tank should i go for?

Confusing myself now!!!!

Mark.

for 5-6 females you should probably go with a 10-12 gallon heavily planted and with many caves for hiding spots. Same with the boy/community. You could do a 10 gallon and add about 4 more corys or some bottom dweller along those lines.

OMFG! I'm always thinking BIGGER and BIGGER, rite 5/6 females it is, gonna buy the tank tomorrow, then sit thru the fishless cycle, then in about 6/7 weeks i'll have a fully planted Betta tank - SWEET

i would NOT add large corries, maybe a group of 6 dwarf corries. surprisingly corries actually need quite a bit of room. many people over look this as they tend to just see then snuffling through a bit of sand.

another problem with having a betta and tank mates is that they often beat the betta to the food and it can be underfed. many people have some cherry shirmp or snails to eat some of the uneaten food.
